Elsy “Stephanie” Todd (she/her)

Hello, my name is Stephanie. I am an Afro-Latinx American, queer, cis-gender woman. I received my bachelor’s degree in liberal arts from Sarah Lawrence College in New York. I am currently a 2nd year MSW student at ASU. I chose social work as a path to becoming a therapist because it highlights the importance of acknowledging all the systems at play in an individual’s life. In social work, human suffering is multidimensional and encompasses the biological, social, cultural, and psychological aspects of an individual. With this wide lens, I can create a safe container for clients to feel completely seen and heard regardless of what personal issue arises during the therapeutic process. I have experience facilitating group therapy in an inpatient setting` for adolescents and adults dealing with a variety of mental health concerns such as  Depression, Anxiety, Bipolar, Schizophrenia, Substance Use Disorder, Self-harm, and more.  Therapeutic methods I am familiar with include DBT, CBT, Mindfulness, and Motivational Interviewing.

I use a strength-based approach which is a positive, empowering method that focuses on identifying and leveraging an individual's strengths, resources, and capabilities to overcome challenges. This approach includes believing that each person is the expert of their life. My role is to help you identify what is working and what isn’t working for you and to together design a method tailored to help reach your goals and lead to lasting change.

I value growth, compassion, and authenticity which drive me to be a life learner of all things wholesome and a seeker of truth. I aim to extend my heart, therapeutic knowledge, and support while working with you on your journey to self-discovery and actualization.

When I am not in therapy mode, I spend my time reading, traveling, thrifting, practicing zen, making music, cooking, running on a treadmill, playing chess, and talking on the phone.
